Richard A. Buchanan is a partner in the law firm of Clausen Miller P.C. He focuses his practice in insurance-related litigation, with an emphasis on matters arising under first-party property policies and the representation of producers and intermediaries.

Mr. Buchanan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bradley University in 1973. Three years later, he obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law.

Since joining the firm in 1976, Mr. Buchanan has tried numerous cases arising from incendiary fires, fraudulent claims, business interruption and extra expense losses, coverage disputes, policy interpretation, reformation actions and ramifications of producer conduct.

Mr. Buchanan is a member of the Defense Research Institute and the American Bar Association subcommittees for property insurance and insurance coverage and is a frequent author and lecturer on insurance-related topics. He is also a member of the Chicago and Illinois Bar Associations. He has an "AV" rating with Martindale-Hubbell indicating the highest ranking in legal ability and ethical standards as determined by his peers in the legal community.
