J. Ryan Hemingway

J. Ryan Hemingway is the Chief Representative of Clausen Miller’s Shanghai Representative Office.  Based in Shanghai, he is responsible for leading the development of Clausen Miller’s Asia practice, representing clients throughout China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia.

Mr. Hemingway has significant litigation experience in representing insurers and reinsurers in large exposure cases involving products liability, property coverage and complex environmental coverage litigation.  His practice concentrates on representing Asia-based clients in international litigation and transactions, and counseling clients on the expansion of their international operations.  Mr. Hemingway has considerable experience in successfully defending international lawsuits involving millions of dollars.  He also represents Asian manufacturers in commercial matters. 

Mr. Hemingway graduated from Southwestern University School of Law and was admitted to the California Bar in 1999.  At Southwestern, he was a member of the Law Review, as well as a member of the school’s trial advocacy competition team.  He graduated magna cum laude from the University of California at Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy with College Honors, the highest distinction awarded by UCLA’s College of Letters and Science.

Mr. Hemingway speaks conversational Mandarin Chinese.  He is a frequent guest lecturer (in English) at East China University of Politics and Law.
