James R. Swinehart

James R. Swinehart is a partner with Clausen Miller P.C. who concentrates his practice in the areas of first-party property insurance coverage and defense. Within these areas, he has handled matters involving first-party property claims for property damage, business interruption and extra expense, fraud, arson, misrepresentation, environmental contamination and product contamination, asbestos removal, and other building damage or problems such as fire, hail, collapse and mold. He also has analyzed first-party property issues and handled claims arising from the September 11 attacks.
Mr. Swinehart has also handled claims involving warehouseman's liability and inland marine/cargo coverage and losses. In addition, Mr. Swinehart has worked on business travel insurance coverage issues and authored an article on this subject.
Work in these areas has given Mr. Swinehart experience in appraisals and arbitration, as well as trials, and he has been involved in coverage disputes and litigation nationwide.
Mr. Swinehart received a B.A., cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1979. He received his Juris Doctor in 1982 from the University of Toledo College of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review.
Mr. Swinehart is a member of the American Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. He has been admitted to the Bar for the State of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois since 1982.
