Harold J. Fassnacht

Harold J. (Jack) Fassnacht is an attorney  with Clausen Miller P.C. specializing in intellectual property law.  Jack has over fifteen years experience in counseling both large and small clients regarding their patent, trademark and copyright matters.  Jack’s practice includes patent prosecution, patent infringement analysis, trademark acquisition and registration, patent and trademark licensing and copyright registration. 

Jack is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the bars of the State of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Jack graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1977 with a degree in Chemical Engineering.  After college, he went to work as a research engineer in Bartlesville, OK for Phillips Petroleum Company before entering law school in 1987.

Jack graduated with high honors from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1990 where he was a member of the Moot Court Society and elected to the Order of the Coif.

Jack’s other accomplishments include:

  • Successfully appealing a United States patent application before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.
  • Successfully prosecuting over 100 United States patents.
  • Serving as Chair of the Inventors Services Committee for the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago (2005, 2006).
  • Making numerous presentations to public and private groups on various aspects of intellectual property.
  • Teaching patent claim drafting to individuals preparing for the Patent Bar Examination.
  • Winning the Class Award at IIT Chicago-Kent School of Law for the highest grade in his Patent Law class.
  • Becoming a registered Professional Engineer.
  • Serving as president of the Bartlesville, OK Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1985.
  • Serving as Chair of the National Kidney Foundation’s TransAction Council Executive Committee in 2005.
