Janine D. Kutylo

Janine Kutylo is a partner with Clausen Miller P.C. who concentrates her practice in commercial litigation, products liability, fire and explosion litigation, construction litigation, premises and professional liability. She has handled wrongful death litigation, cases involving serious personal injuries, and cases with exposures well into the millions of dollars.
Ms. Kutylo handles litigation involving large scale property losses resulting from fire and explosion. She handles asbestos and chemical exposure claims, mold contamination cases, class actions, and other complex matters. She defends corporations in cases involving allegations of negligent manufacture and design, negligent failure to warn, and strict liability. Ms. Kutylo also represents owners, general contractors and subcontractors in the defense of construction liability actions. She has handled cases filed under the consumer fraud and deceptive business and trade practices acts. She has represented municipalities and police officers in civil rights lawsuits, has handled human rights and discrimination litigation, and has represented companies in actions filed under the Federal debt collection and credit repair acts. She has also handled insurance coverage disputes including bad faith claims.
Ms. Kutylo has successfully defended clients at trial and in various forms of alternative dispute resolution including arbitrations, mediations, and judicial settlement conferences.
Ms. Kutylo was a 1999 Clausen Miller Summer Associate and joined the firm in 2000 after receiving a Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. At Loyola, Ms. Kutylo was a two-year recipient of the Corboy Fellowship in Trial Advocacy and a member of Loyola’s National Trial Team. As a member of the four-person trial team, she participated in regional and national trial competitions. During law school, Ms. Kutylo also gained valuable litigation experience, utilizing her Supreme Court Rule 711 license assisting in the prosecution of criminal cases at the United States Attorney’s Office (N.D.- IL) and specifically, the prosecution of a narcotic ring.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Kutylo spent three years working for the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. She worked for U.S. Congressmen Peter T. King (NY) and Henry J. Hyde (IL) and for the U.S. House of Representatives International Relations Subcommittee on Bosnia. The subcommittee was tasked with investigating weapons transfers from Iran to Bosnia and, as part of her investigation, Ms. Kutylo traveled to Croatia to interview witnesses and authored portions of the Subcommittee's Report to Congress. In addition, Ms. Kutylo worked for the International Regulatory Affairs office of a leading telecommunications company's Office of Law and Public Policy.
Ms. Kutylo is a 1994 graduate of American University in Washington, D.C. with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both international studies and political science.
Ms. Kutylo is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She is also admitted to practice before the Federal District Court in the Northern District of Illinois and is a member of the Federal Trial Bar.
