Robert E. Gilmartin is a shareholder in the law firm of Clausen Miller P.C., 10 South LaSalle Street, Chicago, Illinois. He specializes in the litigation and handling of property, toxic tort, subrogation, casualty, insurance coverage, product liability, and inland marine matters. Bob’s litigated cases have involved everything from benzene and business interruption to mold and transformers.

In 2004, Bob was elected by his peers in the Illinois bar to the Leading Lawyers Network, a distinction given to less than five percent of all licensed attorneys in Illinois. He has an "AV" rating with Martindale-Hubbell indicating the highest ranking in legal ability and ethical standards as determined by his peers in the legal community.

Mr. Gilmartin has tried to verdict cases in the United States District Courts around the country, in several circuits in the State of Illinois and in various state courts around the country. He has successfully appeared before the Illinois Appellate Court in both the First and Third Districts.

National Underwriter published Bob’s coauthored article “Is Benzene the New Legal Battlefield” in October, 2007.  His article, "When to Use Polygraph Evidence" appeared in the American Bar Association’s The Brief. Bob also presented a paper entitled "Security Systems Litigation" and spoke at the Annual Convention of the American Bar Association. PM Engineer magazine published his article "Engineering and the Law".

Mr. Gilmartin has been a lecturer for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He has recently authored the Institute’s chapter on Subrogation for its Chancery and Special Remedies handbook, 2006 edition. Bob has been a speaker at seminars presented by the insurance industry, the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the International Association of Arson Investigators. He was a featured speaker at the Environmental Claims Managers’ Conference in San Antonio, Texas. 

Bob was the Vice Chairman of the American Bar Association's Committee on Rail and Motor Carriers. He spoke on legal issues involved in multimodal cargo transportation losses at the Midwestern Conference on Marine Claims and Insurance. He delivered a paper on cargo losses at the Western Loss Association annual meeting.  Bob is a member in the Litigation and Tort and Insurance Practice Sections of the American Bar Association. He was a featured speaker at the American Bar Association's Annual Convention in San Francisco, California.

Mr. Gilmartin received his Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University in 1972 and his Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago in 1975. He received Loyola Alumni Association’s award for Outstanding Leadership and Scholastic Achievement. 

In his free time, Bob practices photography, runs marathons, and plays golf – in reported descending levels of expertise.
