Michael R. Grimm


Michael R. Grimm, Sr. is a shareholder and director with Clausen Miller P.C.  Presently, he is chair of the firm's Business Practice Group, where he concentrates his practice in the handling and trial of complex litigation with an emphasis on the representation of corporate officers and directors, financial institutions, pension plans and their fiduciaries, investment firms, broker-dealers, attorneys, law firms, judges, school districts, municipal corporations, as well as insurance agents, brokers and professionals.  In addition, he counsels clients in areas of employment policy, protocol and litigation, and has been involved with the representation, from time to time, involving professional athletes and media personalities.

Mr. Grimm has had extensive experience in injunction actions, including disputes relating to the enforcement of covenants not to compete.  He has represented clients before the EEOC, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) now referred to as FINRA, and other state and local agencies.

A well-informed lecturer, Mr. Grimm has been called upon to deliver talks and programs concerning such topics as directors and officers liability, accountant claims and malpractice, attorney–client issues, and other various employment and employee benefit matters.  He co-authored, with Clausen Miller partner James T. Ferrini, In the Wake of Kamilewicz: A Claim of Predatory Class Counsel Fees, published in The Defense Counsel Journal, October 1997.

Mr. Grimm is a member of the United States Supreme Court, the Federal Trial Bar,  the State Bar of Illinois, the Federal District Court for Northern Illinois, the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois, the Chicago Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Illinois Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the National Association of School Attorneys, the Illinois Council of School Attorneys, the Justinian Society and the International Association of Defense Counsel.  Recently, Mr. Grimm was inducted as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and has been selected as both a Leading Lawyer and Super Lawyer of Illinois.  Both organizations are peer-selected and sponsored in the attorney's chosen field of practice.  Mr. Grimm has an AV® Preeminent™ rating with Martindale-Hubbell indicating the highest ranking in legal ability and ethical standards as determined by his peers in the legal community.

Mr. Grimm is a graduate of the University of Illinois–Champaign-Urbana (B.A. with honors).  He received his legal education at The John Marshall Law School (J.D. with distinction), where he was elected to the Order of John Marshall.  He also was a member and past president of The John Marshall Gavel Society, and a Fellow of The Litigation Counsel of America.
