Firm History
In 1936, Donald Clausen and Norman Miller opened a law firm on LaSalle Street located in the heart of the business, financial and legal district of Chicago. Through diligent legal scholarship, well-honed courtroom skills and outstanding client service, the firm quickly gained a reputation for successful trial and appellate litigation, especially in insurance law. The firm continued to grow through its ability to manage and litigate cases of ever-increasing diversity and complexity.
Today, Clausen Miller PC is more than 170 attorneys strong. While maintaining the firm's core practice of serving and representing the insurance industry, particularly with regard to analyzing coverage under policies, defending insurers when sued and prosecuting subrogation actions for or on behalf of insurers, the firm also counsels clients on a broad range of commercial, litigation, insurance and liability issues. Clausen Miller's expanded practice areas include everything from Admiralty Law and Appellate Practice to Corporate, Intellectual Property and Unfair Competition, Professional Liability, Tax and Transportation Law. Practicing throughout the United States and abroad, Clausen Miller PC serves as international, national, regional and local corporate and regulatory litigation counsel to numerous corporations, insurance companies and financial clients.
Clausen Miller's United States presence includes the headquarter office on LaSalle Street, and branch offices in Irvine, Parsippany, New York City and Wheaton. In the last two decades, the scope of Clausen Miller's practice has expanded to cover matters in Europe, the United Kingdom, the Virgin Islands, Africa, Australia, Taiwan, New Zealand and South America. In addition, Clausen Miller PC has relationships with law firms around the world, including Clausen Miller Europe, a multinational partnership of attorneys with offices located in London, Shanghai, Paris, Rome and Brussels.
Although Clausen Miller PC is primarily a litigation firm, the firm does not believe that every claim or dispute should be litigated. First and foremost, the firm's attorneys are problem solvers. Prompt, accurate evaluation of legal questions and disputes is a hallmark of Clausen Miller's practice. This provides clients with the foundation necessary to determine whether disputes should be settled, litigated, or perhaps mediated or arbitrated. When litigation is necessary, Clausen Miller's approach to each case is aggressive and comprehensive. All cases are prosecuted or defended to the fullest extent of the law as expeditiously as possible and by the most economical means available. Our lawyers and paralegals have strong and diversified educational backgrounds that enable them to better understand the industries our clients are working in and to provide fast, effective solutions. This legal scholarship allows us to provide proven results in or out of the courtroom.
Much has changed in the world and the practice of law since 1936, but the principles, leadership and success of our founders still guide us. Strong legal scholarship, solid courtroom skills and close partnering with our clients distinguish our practice today, just as they did back then.
