Reinsurance - Brazil: A Tentative Step Towards An Open Market?

April 17, 2008, marked the opening of the Brazilian reinsurance market. To compete with the old state owned monopoly, Lloyd's, Swiss Re and Munich Re are a few among many that have applied for authorization to operate in Brazil.  Iwam Jaeger, Jr. and Clausen Miller LLP solicitor Celso de Azevedo cover the need for international reinsurers to continue a dialogue with Brazilian regulators to facilitate positive changes and maintain a viable and competitive local reinsurance market.
