Neil H. Ekblom Obtained 16th Consecutive Defense Verdict and 23rd Defense Verdict out of the Last 25
September 28, 2006
On September 28, 2006, Neil H. Ekblom, Esq. obtained his 16th consecutive defense verdict and 23rd defense verdict out of the last 25 verdicts. The most recent victory was in Ahn v. Kim (22196/03, Queens Supreme before Judge Peter O’Donahue). The plaintiff’s attorney from the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Firm argued that his client was entitled to $850,000 in damages for not recognizing and treating a post-operative infection that caused the permanent loss of sight to a 65 year old Korean woman. The plaintiff claimed that the physician had negligently delayed treatment of a post-operative infection. Mr. Ekblom convinced the jury that the loss of sight was due not to the infection per say, but to the toxic reaction of the optic nerve to antibiotics prescribed to treat the infection.
Since 2002, Mr. Ekblom has saved physicians and insurance companies more than 29 million based on the amounts requested by plaintiff’s attorneys on summation.
Each defense verdict was a team effort and Mr. Ekblom relied upon the associates and paralegals of his group to assist in preparing the case for trial. This list included Ms. Kathi Rotondo, Mr. Michael Loffredo, Mr. Edward Soyka, Ms. Afaf Sulieman, and Mr. Edward Tobin. All of the associates are Senior Associates and Ms. Rotondo is a Senior Trial Partner. Experienced paralegals include Joseph Zimmer, who assisted in demonstrative evidence and obtaining materials for cross-examination for witnesses and experts and George Staudemeyer of the Chicago office in obtaining the relevant medical literature.
