Biography

Shontia Harris is an associate based in the firm’s Chicago office who concentrates her practice on the defense of civil litigation on behalf of insureds, businesses, and individual professionals in a variety of industries.

Shontia’s experience also includes toxic tort defense, product liability and labor. She has represented both private clients and government entities in state court, administrative hearings and appellate proceedings. Shontia regularly conducts and defends depositions, drafts pleadings and motions, manages complex discovery and develops strategic defense approaches for high-volume caseloads. She also has experience enforcing judgments, handling compliance issues and navigating statutory requirements in labor and wage disputes.  In addition, she served in the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in the General Law Bureau defending state agencies, officers and employees in litigation before the state court.

Shontia earned her J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2021. While in law school she was a member of the Black Law Student Association, Hispanic Latino Law Student Association, Women in Law and Kent Justice Foundation. She also served as an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Section Representative. Shontia received her B.A. in Communications and Spanish from Millikin University in 2010, where she was a Long/Vanderburg Scholar and a Spanish Facilitator, tutoring students and teaching Spanish classes.
