Thushan Sabaratnam is an Associate in the Chicago Office. Thushan concentrates his law practice in areas of complex civil litigation matters including healthcare defense, medical malpractice, professional negligence, commercial transportation, construction, premises liability, employment, contract disputes, property damage claims, and all other catastrophic injury matters. As a skilled litigator, Thushan handles all aspects of a matter from case inception through completion.
His involvement in the defense of multi-million-dollar cases has developed him into a critical analyst of claims against our clients. Thushan engages in creative and novel legal strategies to position matters for the most favorable outcomes for his clients. Throughout his career, Thushan has achieved favorable resolutions for his clients through early settlement negotiations, dispositive motions, arbitration and mediation.
Thushan was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2019. Thushan graduated from The John Marshall Law School with a Juris Doctor degree, where he served on the Law Review Editorial Honors Board and the Moot Court Honors Executive Board. Throughout his law school journey, his Law Review Comment was published, he won the Best Brief at the Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition, and he was awarded top grades in many classes. In addition, he was also granted the Heart of John Marshall Scholarship for his positive influence on the student body.
Prior to law school, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology Honors from the University of Windsor, where he was involved in many student organizations, including the debate team.
Thushan is adaptive and flexible, as he has lived in many large North American cities including Toronto before beginning his legal journey in Chicago. His portfolio of diverse experiences has contributed to his zealous advocacy, and he counsels his clients with an open mind to find the most optimal resolution.
Thushan is a member of various bar associations, including the South Asian Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association.
In his spare time, Thushan enjoys the practice of mixed martial arts, cooking Sri Lankan dishes, and exploring the great wonders of the world. Thushan also coaches moot court teams at UIC, and mentors law school students throughout Chicago.
