Mark J. Sobczak
Associate
Mark Sobczak is an associate with Clausen Miller P.C. Mark interned at Clausen in the summer of 2008 and joined the firm in 2009 after graduating from Northern Illinois University College of Law. While at Clausen, Mark's practice has encompassed a wide variety of appellate, trial-level, and administrative cases in the areas of casualty defense, employment discrimination, professional negligence, school law, toxic tort, and insurance coverage.
Prior to attending law school, Mark spent several years in the claims department for a national liability insurer, where he handled litigated and non-litigated personal injury and subrogation claims in Illinois and other Midwestern jurisdictions. This experience has provided Mark with a unique insight into the insurance claims handling process and an insurer's perspective on pending litigation.
During law school, Mark served as a Notes & Comments Editor for the Northern Illinois University Law Review, where he sat on the editorial board and assisted second-year law students with their legal writing. Mark's and his partner placed first in the College of Law's 26th Annual Prize Moot Court Competition and later participated in the New York Bar Association's National Moot Competition, where they competed against teams from around the country in a test of their written and oral advocacy skills.
Mark gained extensive exposure to appellate practice while in law school. He externed for the Hon. Susan F. Hutchinson of the Appellate Court of Illinois, Second District, and the Second District Office of the Illinois Appellate Defender, where he substantially prepared appellate briefs on behalf of criminal defendants. Mark also interned with the Office of the DuPage County Public Defender, receiving vital exposure to both the courtroom and trial practice.
