Ryerson Acts As Monitoring Counsel At Trial And Obtain A Defense Verdict
Clausen Miller partner Tom Ryerson recently assisted in securing a defense verdict for the City of Chicago in a high-exposure claim against two city paramedics. The plaintiffs alleged that the paramedics acted willfully and wantonly in treating a young lady who experienced a serious allergic reaction after eating take-out food containing peanuts. The plaintiff sustained serious brain injuries, requires around the clock care, and presented future damages well into eight-figures. Tom and Mark joined the defense several days into trial and immediately assisted in crafting jury instructions and helping to ensure preservation of any error for a possible later appeal. Ultimately, the jury held that the paramedics neither acted willfully nor wantonly, nor proximately caused the plaintiff’s injuries. For more information, please contact Tom (tryerson@clausen.com).
